Step 1: Create Your Polar Account

Head to polar.sh/login to create your account. Polar supports multiple sign-in options:

  • Google — Sign in with your Google account
  • GitHub — Great for developers already on GitHub
  • Apple — Sign in with your Apple ID
  • Email — Register with an email address

Simply choose the option that suits you best and complete the registration flow.

Step 2: Set Up Your Business

Once your account is created, Polar will walk you through a short onboarding to set up your business profile.

Enter Your Personal Details

You'll be asked to provide:

  • Full name — Your legal name as it will appear on invoices and payouts
  • Country — Select the country where you or your business is based

Individual or Business?

Polar lets you choose how you want to operate:

  • Individual — Best if you are a solo creator, freelancer, or sole trader. You'll use your personal details for payouts.
  • Business — Best if you have a registered company. You'll enter your company name, registration number, and business address.

Choose the option that best matches your situation. You can update this later from your Polar settings.

Step 3: Add Your Product Details

After your business profile is set up, Polar will prompt you to describe the products or services you plan to sell. This information helps Polar understand your business and ensures compliance.

  • Product category — Choose the category that best describes what you sell (e.g., digital downloads, SaaS, courses)
  • Product description — A brief description of your offering
  • Pricing type — Select how you charge for your product:
    • Fixed price — A one-time payment at a set amount
    • Subscription — Recurring billing (monthly or yearly)
    • Pay what you want — Let customers choose their own price

This step helps Polar assess your account and activate your payment capabilities.

Step 4: Create an API Key

Your Djaty store communicates with Polar using an API key. To generate one:

  1. Log in to your Polar dashboard
  2. Go to Settings in the left-hand navigation
  3. In the Developers section, click Create Token
  4. Give your token a descriptive name (e.g., djaty-store)
  5. Set the Expiration — choose No expiration for a long-lived key
  6. Under Scopes, select all scopes to allow full access
  7. Click Create and copy the token immediately — it won't be shown again

Paste this API key into the Djaty payment setup form when prompted.

Step 5: Set Up Your Payout Account

Before you can receive funds, you need to connect a payout method so Polar knows where to send your earnings.

  1. In your Polar dashboard, go to Finance → Payouts
  2. Click Connect payout account
  3. Follow the Stripe Connect onboarding flow — you'll need to provide:
    • Bank account details (country, account number / IBAN)
    • Identity verification — a government-issued ID may be required
    • Tax information — relevant to your jurisdiction

Once your payout account is verified, Polar will automatically transfer your earnings according to their payout schedule.

You're All Set!

With your Polar account configured and your API key added to Djaty, your store is ready to accept payments. Customers can now check out and pay through your store, and your earnings will be deposited directly into your payout account.

If you run into any issues, visit the Polar documentation or head to our Djaty support page — we're happy to help.
